In TrèsSugar's Battle of the Books faceoff, we've pitted some of the most influential books against each other. Pick which one you'd rather read, and we'll find out what's top shelf.
Finding titles to add to your Fall reading list not incentive enough? We'll be giving away a $1,000 grand prize each month — you must be logged in, and you'll be entered once every time you play. (Check out the official rules here.) What are you waiting for? Get choosy!
I assumed it would involve a bunch of books I've never read but I have read a ton of those books. Not only have I read them but alot of them are my favorites. Memoirs of a Geisha, Girl with a Pearl Earring, White Oleander and I'm reading Rebecca right now.
What?! People would rather read Bridge to Tarabithia over Vanity Fair??? Weird.
I think I must be the first person to answer some of these particular faceoffs because I'm getting 100% agree with you for a lot of them. Sure that will change soon.
Oh and I hated "Island of the Blue Dolphins" I voted against it every time. Sorry for the double post.
I have to disagree on a few of these, not a fan of The Virgin Suicides, but I loved Middlesex. Love the Girls guide to Hunting and fishing! haven't thought of that book in awhile!
I never know if you are supposed to vote for what you like better, or what the majority like better...?
Lolita is one of my favorite books. So beautifully written. (Picnic, lightning.)
often, i love ARCHING UP in a BACKEND when making love it's beautiful! Try it!
This is so much fun - it really appeals to my nerdy English major side!
Yeah anton123 That's very relevant to this post. Thanks for sharing. Maybe on a sex post thread you can comment about a book. lol
Amanda-La: I absolutely LOVED Rebecca, and I read it in the 7th grade! I hope you enjoy it, it makes me want to re-read it now that it has been mentioned!
Bella, I LOVE Lolita too! It's so funny in a kinda sad, demented way though. ('Marvolous skin, oh marvolous. Tender and tanned, not the least blemish.')
It's what the majority would rather read ... which is more often than not disappointing. For example, it's clear that not many have read or heard of Sandra Cisneros.
White Oleander is one of my favorite books! So nice to see as the "poster" for the face off ;D
Guys, The Host is really good. Written by Meyer, but no vampires.
I'm a total bookworm, myself, so I will be checking this out.
I love reading while taking a bath...in HS I used to try and read as many books as I could over the summer...Loved Madame Bovary, Anna Karenina, Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Dante's Inferno. One of my favorites was My Side of the Mountain. Never read Lolita but I just may need to pick that up next time I'm at the book store.
You aren't voting for what you'd rather read, but what other people would rather read. This is kinda stupid.
I dont understand..in order to get it right you have to guess that people would want to read one thing over another? not what id rather read?
If you want to get it right, you have to guess what you think others would rather read. I personally always select what I would rather read. Even if I don't get it right, it sways the scales over to the book I prefer.
I must not quite understand how to play...because people would rather read "Gossip Girl" than Brideshead Revisited"??
