Big-Screen Inspiration For Your Big Day

Big-Screen Inspiration For Your Big Day

We love movie-inspired engagement photos, so ahead of this Sunday's Ocsars, we have even more gorgeous film-spiration for your wedding or e-shoot. From sweet animated flicks like Up and Tangled to a few romances like Twilight and Safe Haven (and geeky picks like Harry Potter and Star Wars), there's something for all types of theatergoers. If you and your beloved share a love for the big screen, here are some of my favorite movie-themed big-day shoots.

Start
Wizard of Oz

This fun shoot answered the question: what if Dorothy and Oz fell in love?

1 / 60
Wizard of Oz

The ceremony took place on a yellow brick road.

2 / 60
Wizard of Oz

How cool was this hot air balloon boutonniere?

3 / 60
Wizard of Oz

The detail on this cake was pretty amazing.

4 / 60
Harry Potter

The stylists behind this Harry Potter shoot were going for a more grown-up take on the series. The result was an "earthy, aged but magical feel." With butter beer, naturally.

6 / 60
Harry Potter

Love the hanging keys for place cards.

6 / 60
Harry Potter

Candles, feathers, and paper goods with a Daily Prophet flair dressed the tablescape.

7 / 60
Harry Potter

"What did you expect? Pumpkin juice?"

8 / 60
The Hunger Games

The planner behind this shoot described it as such:

"I was excited to figure out how to tie in a bow and arrow to a wedding inspiration shoot. I was ready to be challenged and ready to bring an edge to weddings that you don't normally see. By creating the Hunger Games wedding shoot I believe it really shows that absolutely everything can be inspiration to a couple when planning their wedding."

9 / 60
The Hunger Games

The cake took a romantic spin on the series with the signature mockingjay and yellow flowers.

11 / 60
The Hunger Games

The tablescape featured candlelight, golds, and romantic styling.

11 / 60
The Hunger Games

Wrapped homemade bread made a perfect Peeta-inspired favor.

12 / 60
Star Wars

From the photographer:

"My whole goal in doing this nod to Star Wars with a Han and Leia wedding was showing women that they can include their future husband's interests without making the entire event a themed kid's party. Subtlety and classiness can be infused in between the tie-fighters and x-wings."

13 / 60
Star Wars

Star confetti? Count me in.

14 / 60
Star Wars

Midnight-blue sequin tablecloths made for a dazzling display.

15 / 60
Star Wars

Even the cake was far from cheesy.

16 / 60
Safe Haven

The vendors involved in this Safe Haven-inspired shoot explained:

"For the reception we wanted to go bold and fun with a wardrobe change & thought a patriotic and summer theme would be fun since they celebrate the 4th of July in the story."

17 / 60
Safe Haven

A quote from the Nicholas Sparks book turned movie made for sweet signage.

18 / 60
Safe Haven

Trinkets added film flair.

19 / 60
Twilight

This shoot was inspired by Bella and Edward's wedding in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, but with a twist. The stylist set the scene in California with some '20s art deco and vintage flair. The name cards tied to chess pieces was a nice touch.

20 / 60
Twilight

The color scheme had its roots in Bella's sapphire hair combs but then had browns, whites, and grays inspired by a California forest.

21 / 60
Twilight

A Bloody Mary bar made for a cheeky reference to the vampire love story.

22 / 60
Twilight

Positively dreamy.

23 / 60
Twilight

Some specific references included hanging flowers and art nouveau details, like with the paper goods.

24 / 60
Alice in Wonderland

This real Winter wedding was thrown for a German and French couple who met in Las Vegas. The bride, Sabrina, explained the Alice in Wonderland theme:

"A lot of fantasy is needed to think about the fact that two people from two different countries, with two different languages met in Vegas, fall in love and get married. That's actually how we found our wedding theme: FANTASY! And what reflects fantasy better than Alice in Wonderland!?"

25 / 60
Alice in Wonderland

Love the Mad Hatter-esque tea party setup.

26 / 60
Alice in Wonderland

The details were spot-on, including character place cards.

27 / 60
Alice in Wonderland

This cake featured illustrations from the books.

28 / 60
Alice in Wonderland

Even the bridal party dressed for the theme.

29 / 60
Indiana Jones

This wedding shoot was inspired by the warehouse scene from Indiana Jones's Raiders of the Lost Ark and played off a couple of quotes from the film: "Snakes. Why'd it have to be snakes?" and "'X' never, ever marks the spot."

30 / 60
Indiana Jones

The company that provided the furniture and props, Found Vintage Rentals, had this to say about the look:

"Pallets stacked to the ceiling, reclaimed wood, an abundance of trunks; the environment was mysterious. Piles of books created walls. Hanging chairs made the tunneled entrance. Trays became shelves. Luggage turned into treasure chests."

31 / 60
Indiana Jones

Honey & Poppies, who created the jungle-inspired florals, added:

"To me, tropical flora is lush on foliage and scare on actual blooming plants, so I wanted to use just a few really stunning exotic cattleya orchids and gardenias. Both of these flowers also evoke the 1930's and 40's (Indy's time period), when they were commonly worn by ladies out on the town."

32 / 60
Romeo + Juliet

The style of this wedding shoot was inspired by the 1996 adaptation of William Shakespeare's tale Romeo and Juliet. It was both gothic and romantic.

33 / 60
Romeo + Juliet

Bold colors mixed with love-filled details in the Miami-set shoot.

34 / 60
Romeo + Juliet

The theme throughout was "a legendary love." The angel wing paid tribute to Juliet's costume when she meets Romeo.

35 / 60
Romeo + Juliet

The signature cocktail was fittingly called "star-crossed lovers."

36 / 60
Brave

The look of this Brave-inspired shoot was "mystic yet ethereal" with "woodsy details."

37 / 60
Brave

Of course, the dessert table was filled with traditional Scottish pastries.

38 / 60
Brave

Merida wouldn't be caught dead getting married without her bow and arrow.

39 / 60
Brave

The tablescape was as wild and lush as the film's heroine.

40 / 60
Water For Elephants

According to the photographer, the shoot was an imagining of what a wedding between Jacob and Marlena (played by Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon) would have been like.

41 / 60
Water For Elephants

It was even shot at one of the locations used in the movie, the Orange Empire Railway Museum.

42 / 60
Water For Elephants

The invites had that circus feel.

43 / 60
Water For Elephants

It wouldn't be a circus wedding without cotton candy.

44 / 60
Water For Elephants

The getaway attire channeled the film perfectly.

45 / 60
500 Days of Summer

Love this wedding shoot inspired by 500 Days of Summer, featuring many of the movie's downtown LA locales.

46 / 60
500 Days of Summer

The tablescape cleverly incorporated the architecture theme, along with Summer's bedroom wallpaper and Tom's chalkboard wall.

47 / 60
The Great Gatsby

With The Great Gatsby film out this Summer, we saw lots of beautiful 1920s wedding inspiration. In this shoot, the bride had her '20s hairpiece and fashion styled to perfection.

48 / 60
The Great Gatsby

Glam meets romance.

49 / 60
The Great Gatsby

Gilded cakes made the dessert era-appropriate.

50 / 60
Up

If you loved the Up engagement shoot, you'll love this real wedding inspired by the animated movie. It included so many sweet details from the flick!

51 / 60
Up

How perfect was this Up cake? What a fun, sentimental movie to incorporate into a wedding.

52 / 60
Up

Multicolored balloons were a must.

53 / 60
Pride and Prejudice

The stylist for this shoot explained the Jane Austen inspiration:

"Like 'Pride and Prejudice' itself, it's a study in contrast; the refined, neoclassical sensibilities of Darcy meet with the wild, heartstrong tendencies of Elizabeth . . . The result? An update on the traditional wedding breakfast for the contemporary bride and groom, one that combines the elegance of weddings past with the playful individualism of the present."

54 / 60
Pride and Prejudice

I love this modern interpretation of such a classic literary work and film.

55 / 60
Pride and Prejudice

The bride and groom held portraits of Elizabeth and Darcy.

56 / 60
Black Swan

This dramatic, romantic, ballet-inspired shoot used Black Swan's black and white theme to its advantage.

57 / 60
Black Swan

And don't forget the feathers, tulle, and pointe shoes.

58 / 60
Tangled

At the end of the Disney flick Tangled, it is alluded to that Rapunzel and Flynn get married. This shoot was a photographer's vision of what that would have looked like.

59 / 60
Tangled

The color scheme of lavender, peach, and gold was inspired by Rapunzel's dress in the film.
