Frozen Disney Princesses
Get to Know the Newest Disney Princesses
Elsa and Anna are Norwegian sisters and the stars of the newest Disney animated feature film Frozen, out this weekend. And most importantly, they're the Princesses of Arendelle, which means they've joined the prestigious official Disney Princess club (taking the No. 12 and 13 spots). The ladies are loosely based on characters from the Danish fairy tale Snedronningen, aka The Snow Queen, by Hans Christian Andersen, but what else do we know about Anna and Elsa? Get to know the latest Disney princesses and see how they stack up to their predecessors now!
Anna
Bio
Anna, voiced by Kristen Bell, is based on the heroine Gerda from The Snow Queen. She's awkward, kind, optimistic, and well-liked by the townsfolk. From the trailer, it looks like she may be in a love triangle between Hans, the handsome royal, and Kristoff, the mountain man who helps her. But she definitely doesn't need a Prince Charming. Anna is brave and determined to save her kingdom and family.
Princess Stats
Anna will be the first Disney Princess to have a fellow Disney Princess as a sister, and she's the first to have a biological relative as the film's villain (although Elsa isn't evil, so that's a stretch).
Elsa
Bio
Elsa, voiced by Idina Menzel, is Anna's older sister. Her secret power to create ice and snow is exposed when she accidentally curses the kingdom to be in an eternal Winter. While she was next in line to the throne, she flees to a self-made ice palace to become the Snow Queen. She's sort of the villain, but really just misunderstood and fearful.
Princess Stats
According to the novelization of the film, Elsa is 21 at the time of her coronation, making her the oldest Disney princess (after Cinderella) and the only one to not be a teenager. Progress?
