Ugh, periods. Not only do they put you in a bad mood and give you cramps, but you also have to frequent the drugstore every month to stock up on your feminine hygiene products. If only there were a period fairy that could turn that PMS frown upside down. Enter the period subscription box. You may have seen the hilarious viral video about a young girl at camp, affectionately known as the Camp Gyno, who hands out tampons and advice when the other girls get their periods — that is, until they all start ordering subscription period boxes and no longer need her help.

Turns out, this is no joke. In addition to sexy subscription boxes and our own POPSUGAR Must Have box, there are now monthly period-specific packages. It's quite genius, actually. Not only are they filled with practical products you need (i.e. tampons, pads, and Midol), but they also have other fun goodies like chocolate and hot tea to give you something to look forward to as you're rolled up in bed with a heating pad. Juniper

I just received my June Juniper box ($28), which was filled with tampons, pads, liners, Midol painkillers, hot tea, honey, cookies, a brownie, dried fruit, and olive oil soap. An enclosed letter from the founder read, "What I really wanted to include in this month's box was Jose Cuervo, a bag of limes, and Ryan Gosling in his favorite pair of boxers."

How it works: You pick your brand (they currently offer Tampax, Tampax Pearl, U by Kotex, OB, and Playtex GentleGlide), set your cycle dates, and they send you a box filled with all unscented products plus a "food pack" for $28 with free shipping. After your starter box, they will tweak your package to be specific to your needs every month after that.

The Period Store

If you want a large selection of products and the ability to customize your order, then your best bet might be The Period Store. Not only are you able to choose from traditional, global, or eco-friendly period products, but there are also herbal remedies, stain removers, and even a first-period kit to choose from (among others). There are numerous brand options, including Always, Carefree, Kotex, OB, Playtex, and Tampax.

How it works: Register and customize your package by choosing the number, type, and brand of period products you want. Then set your cycle and choose your package. They all include an art print, a gourmet sweet, two tea bags, and three medicine packs and then are priced based on the number of period products. Treats ($15) has zero, Lite ($20) has one, Medium ($25) has two, and Heavy ($30) has three.

My Cotton Bunny

An affordable and simple period subscription box is My Cotton Bunny.

How it works: These monthly themed bundles run just under $14 and include your choice of tampons or pads (brands include Kotex, Tampax, Always, Playtex, and OB), a gift, and a treat. This month is a "nail spa bundle," with gourmet lollipops, a glass nail file, and nail wraps. Another past bundle included soft socks and hot cocoa.

28 Day Hug

28 Day Hug is a different kind of period subscription box, as it doesn't contain any feminine hygiene products — just treats.

How it works: For $4 (plus shipping), you can send yourself or a friend a mini care package to get through your period. Each monthly pack includes some kind of chocolate bar, a handful of tea bags, a body care product (like an aromatherapy shower tablet), and a sample or two of something else.

HelloFlo

Plans range from $14 to $18 to customize what you need from HelloFlo. Each box contains pads and/or tampons as well as "some delicious treats." A past package included a box of Pocky sticks, three small bags of gummy bears, and a fab chevron container.

How it works: You choose the type of period products you want (they only carry Tampax Pearl and Always), mark your cycle, and choose your plan (all of which include shipping in their price) for the amount of products you'll need: Low Flo ($14), Medium Flo ($16), Heavy Flo ($18), Short and Heavy ($14), Pad Only ($15), and Tampon Only ($15).

Bonjour Jolie

The Bonjour Jolie monthly subscription box comes with a lot of goodies for the price and offers all commercially available feminine product brands sold in the US. There's also a box tailored toward young teens.

How it works: You set your preferences, submit your cycle information, share any special requests, and then choose 30 pads, tampons, and/or liners (any brand, any size, any combination). For $16 (plus shipping) you receive the 30 period products, bath and body items, gifts, teas, and chocolates. June's theme is "Summer of Color" and contains a full-size lip-stain marker, four-piece chocolate truffle set, five organic tea bags, rose soap petals, and samples (shampoo/conditioner set, Kiehl's lotion, cleansing cloths, and Advil).

Le Parcel

For $15 (plus shipping) Le Parcel sends you a monthly box with period products plus chocolate and a gift. One past box had a nice ChapStick and a cake pop.

How it works: You choose up to 30 of the period products you want — be they tampons, pads, or liners — in any combination you want and whichever brands you choose (they currently carry Tampax, Playtex, Kotex, and OB). You then put in the date of delivery, and they deliver the products along with a gift and a sweet treat to your door.
