lkjh4321- then you are SO right to politely decline being a bridemaid, because, while a bridesmaid is not a source of slave labour, they are agreeing to more than just a sitting at the head table and getting blasted at the bachelorette party. Their job IS to help out with the planning and preparation of the wedding day.

Isn't it kind of rude to assume that your bridesmaids will help out with everything? I would hate to be a bridesmaid for a bride like this. Not only do you have to give her tons of gifts (shower, bachelorette, wedding), you are expected to pay for the dress, shoes, etc. Then on top of it you're supposed to be a free source of labour. An 'assembly-line party? Who are we kidding here? You can't just put 'party' at the end of words to trick people into making them sound fun. I always feel bad, whenever a friend asks me to be her bridesmaid and I can tell she's going to have lots of projects, I have to say no. I just don't have that much money or time. And it also seems a bit rude to assume that others will do stuff for your for free just because you're friends. A few things maybe, but you can take advantage of your bridesmaids too.
