Switching From Birth Control Pills to IUD

I am considering switching to an IUD after years of being on the pill. I am only considering a hormonal method (Mirena), and not the copper IUD. Does anybody have any experience, good or bad, with this form of birth control that they can share?

I'm on it and love it. It was slightly painful and I bled a lot for the first month or so, after that my periods gradually stopped over about four months. My boyfriend would sometimes get hurt on the string during sex, so I had to have it trimmed back. I have noticed a bit of weight gain, but comparable to any other birth control I'd say.
