It started out as a blogging gig for a moms-to-be site, but 23-year-old Lynsee, a teacher from Minnesota, decided to take it a step further. Along with her mother, husband, and midwife, she's going to have a cameraman film her giving birth while it's broadcast on live television. (No graphic shots, however.)
Although her husband Anders was hesitant at first, he finally agreed to it. "We wanted to share this experience," said Lynsee. "If I were in a classroom, I'd be teaching about development. It was a way for me to teach . . . A way for me to use myself as a textbook."
I find it odd that Lynsee asked to keep her last name private for this news story but is going to have someone film and broadcast to strangers one of the most private experiences of her life. (But maybe that's just me.) Is giving birth on television for strangers to watch TMI?
I agree with her that its scientific and teaching. will I watch? likely no, because I'm scared of childbirth
1yes it's TMI
2I think I would consider this a little different than other "private experiences". I watched a (graphic) birth in biology in high school. Now I understand the (horrific) miracle of birth... someone had to film it. If she wants to broadcast hers, well, it's not like she's forcing anyone to tune in.
3The last time I checked, women have been giving birth for thousands of years. Who cares? The ego of this woman thinking HER baby, HER birth, HER self is so frigging new and miraculous and amazing just blows my mind. Get over yourself, sweetheart. Yawn.
4How is it TMI when there will be no graphic shots, I mean you can watch a birth story on TLC and see the same thing.
I helped deliver both my niece and nephew, the latter one was a home birth. I think everyone, man or woman should see what birth is like, especially a natural birth.
5I applaud her effort to educate people. Not everyone knows what a birthing experience is like and as a result many women are unnecessarily terrified of this natural experience. She has also been interactive with the people following her on this site about her pregnancy. I think that is the difference between watching a birthing video and what this woman is doing. Her followers feel invested in her experience and that contributes to this teaching model.
6if there's no graphic shots, though, we're not actually watching a birth...it's kinda weird
also, if she did show her private regions, i'm sure she wouldn't still be allowed to teach...there must be some sort of rule about that
7I say keep your vagina to yourself.....
8if you dont wanna watch it, dont watch it-
9I mean they show this stuff on Health Channel all the time.. am I missing why this is different?
I watch baby story every day.agree with others, why is this any different?
10CG,how is everything from the good ol conservative group back when this site was a mess .It's me letsgetloud. I forgot my password and am to lazy to go to my e-mail to get it !

12awww I love it.
13Birth Story on TLC? I agree with the other in that.... its the same thing! So the women who are saying TMI... I take it you dont watch Birth Story.
14"Horrific miracle of birth" is such a great title, Pistil — I think that's what she should call it! "The Horrific Miracle of Birth, with Lynsee."
15I think it's a good idea. Watching a birth is amazing birth control, even without the graphic shots.
16meh. i think she's an attention wh*re. but i think anybody on any reality show is.
17I don't think it's TMI if there are no crotch shots, but the whole thing does strike me as attention-wh*rey, yeah. Honestly, birth should be such a private experience, I don't get things like this and A Baby Story. Why would you want to be filmed and shown in thousands of homes screaming "Get this ***king thing out of me!"?
Everyone wants that 15 minutes of fame, no matter what it takes to get there.
18Giving birth takes a long time. I highly doubt anyone will want to watch the entire ordeal.
19Is nothing private anymore ? I don't see why anyone would think HER birth is so special !
20I wouldn't do this and I don't want to watch it either.
21I agree, snarky.
Also, I never get people who complain about something that's on TV. Just watch something else.
22Exactly, runningesq. Why would I want to watch her give birth? The act itself is gross.
If she were the Virgin Mary, you might be able to rope me into watching. But she's an average Jane from Minnesota. Seriously? Hundreds of thousands of women give birth in MN yearly.
23Actually EVERY single birth IS special. Maybe if we portrayed positive views of it, starting with how it is portrayed in the media, we would be more prone to treat it as the sacred and empowering event that it can be.
24Yeah...I had crotch-side tickets to a friend's delivery in my early 20's. I'm good. But, as they say, whatever makes this woman's peanut butter Skippy!
25I've got to disagree with you there, Anonymous. Every single birth is special to the parents of the baby. Not to complete randos.
26Yea I won't be watching this. I've seen enough videos about giving birth in my Child Development class, I don't need to see another.
27Giving birth is as natural as breathing and we could all benefit from seeing at least one "graphic" live birth. Its disturbing the amount of individuals (especially women) who know NOTHING about the birthing process. Even if you never have children, you should be aware of your bodily functions...that is just common sense. I think youth should be REQUIRED to watch a live birth as I believe they would be more apt to consider the responsibility of sexual intimacy. I would watch but if you are not interested then do not. What I find interesting is that people have such strong opinions against airing a live birth, it just makes no sense to me. We see baby's being born every day on various baby shows, we see surgeries on discovery channel, we see ER tragedies and we watch Dr. G exam dead bodies. I see no difference with what this woman is doing. Why would anyone be in such a tizzy because she wants to use her birth as an educational opportunity. Why so bitter when it has absolutley nothing to do with "you" (collective).
28I feel like that would make me like, never want to have a child..icky. I cant handle stuff like that.
29Pinupgirl I don't really consider giving birth a bodily function. lol. I get what you mean, but since I'm not pregnant I don't think I need to know about it to that extent.
30I don't have anything against her doing this. I just feel like the only reason I would be interested to know about everything that occurs during childbirth is if I were pregnant. And I'm not.
I don't know. A lot of people already know what happens from going through the experience and many others simply won't watch. I just don't feel like there is a huge audience for such a thing.
Way TMI. She sounds like an attention wh*re. There are already enough educational childbirth videos out there, so her rationale doesn't really ring true at all.
31It says no graphic shots, so this isn't any different than other birth shows on TV, it's just live. Why is it 'too much information' to see a natural process? They'll obviously blur out her vagina.
